In anticipation of CORE: Milano opening in 2020, we are thrilled to bring you world renowned Milanese architect and creator of award-winning urban palazzo Il Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest) Stefano Boeri, for a discussion on how Milan has transformed in recent years into a new international hub. In conversation with Richard David Story, former Editor of Departures magazine, be prepared to gain a deeper understanding of a city where fashion, design, healthcare, biomedical research, publishing, advertising, and the digital world are in constant dialogue. In addition, Boeri is a champion of urban forestry. To wit, his Vertical Forest, the first prototype of a building entirely covered with plants and trees, and the Green River, the redevelopment project of the abandoned railway yards. About Stefano Boeri:
Stefano Boeri, architect and urban planner, is a professor at Politecnico in Milan and a visiting professor at several international universities. At Tongji University in Shanghai, he is Director of the Future City Lab, a post-doctoral research program which explores the future of contemporary metropolis under the perspectives of biodiversity and urban forestry.

Since November 2018, he has been Co-Chair of the Scientific Committee for the first World Forum on Urban Forests, organized in Mantua together with FAO.

Director of the reviews Domus (2004-2007) and Abitare (2007-2011) and author of several publications, Stefano Boeri was Councilor for Culture in Milan from 2011 to 2013, and in February 2018, he was appointed President of Fondazione La Triennale di Milano.

Stefano Boeri’s work ranges from the production of urban visions and architectures to the interior and furniture design. The focus on the relationship between city and nature leads to the creation of the Vertical Forest, the first prototype of a residential building that conceives vegetation as an essential element of architecture. Built in Milan in 2014, the Vertical Forest has received many international awards, among which the International Highrise Award in 2014 and the Best Tall Building Worldwide Award in 2015 by CTBUH.

The studio Stefano Boeri Architetti, based in Milan and with offices in Shanghai and Tirana, is currently working on international projects such as the General Local Plan Tirana 2030, the Vertical Forests in Paris, Lausanne, Utrecht, Eindhoven and Nanjing and several models of Forest City all over the world.

Richard David Story has, for the greater part of his career, devoted himself to the world of luxury travel. For the past 17 years, Story was the editor of DEPARTURES, the award-winning luxury travel and lifestyle magazine published by American Express for Platinum and Centurion cardholders. In 2010 THE LATIN ISSUE, which covered South America from its cover to its back page, won Best Magazine of The Year from the American Society of Magazine Editors. “I have always loved that Alexander the Great was said to have wept when he realized that there were an infinite number of worlds,” Story says. “Travel is a way of throwing open the windows of life and breathing in a vast new world of experiences, not only geographically but spiritually.” Before DEPARTURES, Story was the Features Director of American VOGUE, Associate Managing Editor of NEW YORK magazine, and senior editor of TRAVEL & LEISURE and ESQUIRE magazines Currently, he is living in New York where he acts as a consultant to a wide variety of luxury and travel brands. He is a Contributing Editor to TOWN & COUNTRY. Richard grew up in Oklahoma, attended Williams College and graduated magna cum laude with degrees in American history and European art,.
